A BECCLES living history music group will be performing at some of the country's most prestigious historical buildings after they dazzled the crowds at Hampton Court Palace in May.

Cantocordia, who will be performing with the Beccles Singers at St Michael's Church tomorrow, enjoyed an “amazing” experience when they played at the favourite palace of King Henry VIII.

Cantocordia were asked to perform by historical novelist Alison Weir, who was impressed by the group when they supported her book signing in Beccles at Christmas last year.

This time they were supporting Alison as she gave a talk on Henry VIII and his wives, and afterwards they did a small concert on their own.

The group were performing in full Tudor costume, and played pieces composed by Henry VIII with Tudor instruments such as crumhorn and a rebec. The group had VIP passes, and were given the run of the court when the general public had left- and they even managed to get a picture of themselves with the Beccles Bag.

“It was amazing,” said Karen Wareham, of Cantocordia. “To be there dressed like that felt special- you've got hairs sticking up on the back of your neck. I don't think it can get much better than that.”

Historic Royal Palaces, who run Hampton Court Palace along with other national treasures such as the Tower of London and Kensington Palace, were equally impressed with the group and have asked them back in the future. They have also put them on their books for future events at the Palaces, and they will be playing at the Tower of London in September for the book launch of Alison Weir's The Lady in the Tower: The Fall of Anne Boleyn and Tracy Borman's Elizabeth's Women.

Cantocordia will be playing with the Beccles Singers tomorrow at St Michael's Church, performing Handel's Trio Senata in B Flat Minor, and then will come out in their Tudor costume after the interval and play the music they performed at Hampton Court.

The concert will also feature music from Monteverdi and Mozart, and starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are 6 or 4 for concessions, and 1 for accompanied children. They are available by telephoning 01502 715428. Tickets will also be available on the door.
