Loddon homes bid is unveiled

Proposals to build 61 new starter homes in Loddon were on public display for the first time this week.
The development by Allison Luxury Homes, part of the Larkfleet Group of companies, is earmarked for land off High Bungay Road.
And the company held a drop-in session on Tuesday when almost 100 residents saw the plans and asked questions.
Russell Briggs lives on Gunton Road, near the proposed site and said: “I haven’t got a problem with them building houses but I think there will be accidents where they are putting the exit.
“There’s a bus stop and it will only take someone coming out of the road who can’t see a car overtaking for there to be an accident.”
Fellow Loddon resident Colleen Townrow said she was concerned about the impact the number of homes would have on village life.
“This village isn’t very big,” she said. “And we’re going to have hundreds more houses built on George Lane, and 61 here.
“I think the access road just won’t work.”
Staff from town planning agency Robert Doughty Consultancy spoke to residents at the event, which was held in the Library Annexe on Church Plain.
Planning Consultant Michael Braithwaite said there was always a need for affordable housing, and that the development would bring people into the village, supporting its services.
He added that people’s main concerns were the traffic and the difficulty they have getting out onto the A146, but said this would not be an issue.
“We do have a technical report and the level of development would not add to the generation of traffic at peak times,” he said. “People starting and finishing work at different times or working on shift patterns would mean there wouldn’t be a significant number of cars entering or exiting the development at the same, peak time.”
Residents were invited to submit comments on Tuesday, and Mr Braithwaite said these comments would all be considered before a formal planning application was submitted.
