A theatre company has cancelled a fundraising event that had been organised to help a young gymnast achieve his dreams.

After a lack of ticket sales, Loddon Players have been forced to cancel their Cabaret and Quiz Evening at Lecture Hall scheduled for tonight, Friday, April 20.

The event was originally organised to raise money for Shane Baxter, a young member of the Players who is one of only five male athletes chosen to represent Great Britain at the Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi next year.

Shane must raise £2,500 to pay for living expenses that he will incur while competing in the competition but, unfortunately, not enough tickets have been sold to make the cabaret and quiz event worthwhile.

The Players are now in the process of planning a quiz and chips evening, to be held on June 23, as an alternative way of raising money for Shane. It is hoped this event will receive increased support.
