A group of pupils from Hobart High School in Loddon will be travelling to Morocco in July for a once in a lifetime experience.

It will be the second time pupils from the school have visited the country, and 15-year-old Joseph Roberts of Mettingham, a Year 10 pupil at the school, will be among the group of 17 travelling.

The trip is offered to Year 10 and Year 11 pupils and is organised by Schools Worldwide. During the previous trip, pupils trekked through the Atlas Mountains before carrying out projects in an under privileged community, with funds raised by the school towards the cost of the work, and ended with a trip to Essaouira for a camel ride on the beach.

Joseph said: “The last time the school went on the trip they helped to build a new wall and path in a village, so I think we will be doing something similar.

“The main aspect of the trip is to help an under privileged community and I am really looking forward to this as I believe it will greatly improve me as a person and also hugely benefit a community which is not as fortunate as us. “I also believe that this trip is a once in a lifetime opportunity, which will enormously develop my understanding of the world.”

The school will set off on the two-week trip in July, and each pupil needs to raise £1,350 to cover the cost of the experience.

Joseph said: “We are organising some events like cake sales and car washes to help pay for the trip, and we have already started fundraising by selling cakes and drinks at a school concert which raised £250 for the group.

“We have also got to get physically fit so we are doing some fitness sessions at school and I have been doing some walking to break in my boots.”
