A pub landlord and a first officer in the Merchant Navy came together to complete the London Marathon and raise money to support those in the maritime industry.

When Simon Peck, of The White Horse in Chedgrave, heard longtime customer and friend Ania Vanston was planning to run the marathon he knew he wanted to help.

He said: “I told her I would do it with her.”

“This is really Ania’s story not mine - from her experiences at sea she wanted to raise money to help those people.”

The pair completed the race in six hours and 47 minutes and raised an incredible £6,000 for Seafarers UK in the process.

Mr Peck said: “It supports all people in the maritime industry. It is an umbrella charity for various causes and makes sure the money gets to the right place.”

Donations can still be made at the pub and the landlord thanked the generosity of the local people for their outpouring of support.
