THE sports club at the Maltings Meadow at Ditchingham should be allowed to extend its opening times to midnight for a trial period of two years, say Bungay town councillors.
Bungay and District Sports Association has applied to
the Broads Authority
for the removal of conditions limiting use of the premises
to mixed use for sporting
and social events; also,
to allow its use between nine o'clock in the morning and 1am.
The authority has asked for the town council's view on the request.
Town clerk Peter Morrow said it meant the association wanted to use the facilities for functions other than sporting events and social events related to sport.
Didy Ward said she did not blame the association for trying to extend its services and income, and Deirdre Shepherd said the site did not impinge on many people.
Malcolm Bedingfield said the facilities at Maltings Meadow were now second to none and it was a great asset to the Bungay district.
Members backed the application but felt that the time should be restricted to midnight.
