THE Loose End social drop in centre social group at Claxton is celebrating grants from five sources which have enabled it to buy equipment for its meetings.

It has been able to buy new table chairs and crockery and cutlery, and to celebrate the group “christened “ them with a tea party at its base at Claxton Village Hall.

The grants for the equipment came from Norfolk Rural Community Council, Age Concern (The national Council on ageing), Norfolk Community Foundation, the John Jarrold Trust, John Lewis (Norwich), and the EDP.

The group was founded three year ago by Anne Mundy, Pat Powley and Linda Clitheroe with Chris Butt as the “tea boy.” The event saw the group bidding a fond farewell to Chris, who is moving out of the area. All the group's helpers are volunteers and additional helpers always welcome

Loose End is based and meets at Claxton Village Hall and meets twice a month on the first and third Tuesday, from 2-4pm. Admission charge is £1.50, which includes a strip of raffle tickets and refreshments. Any profits are returned to the group. Any one who is at a loose end can attend the group. It has a busy social calendar, having visiting speakers, and when funds permit coach excursions are organised.

“We try to be independent and fundraise for these activities, but always welcome help to finance trips and speakers,” said Linda.

For general information on the group contact Pat 01508 480270. If you can help with the cost for social activities or could give a talk phone Anne on 01508 480518.
