The 759 Beccles Air Training Corps have held a squadron dinner to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Air Cadet Organisation.

Seventy officers, cadets and guests attended the dinner at Carlton Manor Hotel in Carlton Colville.

During the celebration, Beccles mayor Graham Catchpole presented a cheque for £500 to Flying Officer Martin Dobson, Acting Officer Commanding, raised through an appeal for youth sports started by Mr Catchpole when he was mayor in 2013, which was still active.

Mr Catchpole said he has been connected in various ways with the air cadets, starting when his son joined the squadron and he saw first hand the excellent experiences available to young people.

He said he had always been very impressed with the high standards they have maintained over many years. And after hearing that they did not have a uniform when taking part in team sport events, Mr Catchpole decided to help with the funding.
