Meet Sydney, the latest resident at a Brooke care home. The west highland terrier puppy is a new face at Kingsley Healthcare-run Brooke House – and manager Laura Crowley said he has settled in well.

She said: “We have a cat, Harvey, as well and pets are great for residents who used to have them earlier in their life and often miss them.”

The name Sydney was chosen by Mrs Crowley from a shortlist suggested by residents. She takes Sydney home with her at night, but during the day he has the run of the home. She said: “He loves coming in and goes straight into his carrying basket when I say I am leaving for work.”

Another of Brooke House’s pets, Rebel the African grey parrot, has gone missing after opening the latch on his cage and flying off.

Anyone who finds Rebel, who made the news last year for imitating nurse call alarms, is asked to call the care home.
