The Ditchingham Men’s Shed invited members of the community into the village hall for lunch as part of last week’s Silver Sunday celebrations.
The annual event offers a day of fun and free activities for older people across the UK, helping to combat loneliness and isolation.
Ditchingham Men’s Shed responded to the call and hosted a Sunday lunch at Broome Village Hall, attended by 70 people.
The event was sponsored by a grant from South Norfolk Council’s Help Hub, with support from Tesco’s Community Champion who provided all the vegetables.
Fred Hartwell, Men’s Shed chairman and head chef said: “It was a treat to see so many people enjoying themselves. It also showed how a group of guys who, in many cases, had not met each other before joining the shed had become a team of friends enjoying each others company and that is what the Men’s Shed is about.”
Mr Hartwell was helped in the kitchen by Bungay town reeve Mary Sprake, who is an honorary shedder and friend Ros.
Ditchingham Men’s Shed meets every Friday at Broome Village Hall from 10am to noon, with new members welcome.
