FAIRIES, a ballerina and even Spiderman paraded around Beccles on Monday, but it wasn't anything to be concerned about.

The St Luke's Church annual fancy dress parade and fair attracted a whole host of characters including a gang of pirates, mermaid, a St Trinian and a real-life Transformer.

Some sporting adults also got into the spirit of the occasion by arriving as a nun, gypsy, school girl and medieval lady.

The parade was led by John Allport around Rigbourne Hill, before everyone returned to the community centre for refreshments and entertainment from Andrew Miller who kept children mesmerised with his balloon model making.

Everyone received a prize for their effort in making a costume courtesy of Toy Box in Beccles, who donated puzzles, colouring books and many other delights.

Some others were singled out for being the most realistic, imaginative and colourful in their age group by judges Jack and Cynthia Walmsley, mayor and mayoress of Beccles.

Tesco, Morrisons and QD also provided prizes of vouchers.

The event, which has taken place on and off for six years is organised by Rev John Beauchamp and his team who said: “The fancy dress parade and fair is a fun annual event for all of the community. It's great to see the children have such a good time and others enjoying themselves and finding a bargain. We are grateful to all who supported the fair by providing prizes and helping on the day.”

Proceeds go towards supporting the church and community centre.
