A WORLINGHAM mother-of-four who lost a massive five stone 10 pounds in just 21 weeks was honoured at a special ceremony this week.

Hayley Rix was named as the Woman of the Year at the Beccles Slimming World Group following the fantastic achievement of making it from 17.2 stone to 11.65.

Mrs Rix, 30, has employed dramatic lifestyle changes in her family life to lose the weight and is now only one stone from her target weight.

She will now go on to represent Beccles in the district Slimming World finals, and then hopefully the national finals.

Mrs Rix, who is a housewife, has four young children, Danielle, seven, Charlie, five, Demi, two, and Harry, one.

She said that it had been hard work to lose the weight, although her family had been very supportive in her endeavors by eating the same diet and the children joing her in her exercise of walking the dog.

Her husband Stephen, 37, joined up with the Beccles Slimming World group when Hayley started going 21 weeks ago.

And despite having reached his own target weight, losing two stone two pounds, he has continued to attend the groups as support for his wife.

“I didn't think he'd do it with me because it's not really a man thing,” she said. “My husband's so proud of me. There's always the family support there. They probably get sick of it!

“I feel great, I really do. I'm so confident. Before it was such a task to go out and buy clothes but now I enjoy clothes shopping. I feel brilliant.”

Mrs Rix said that she would put the weight on when pregnant, and found it hard to shake off - especially as her youngest were only separated by 10 and a half months.

She had been to Slimming World for three stints before, but has never lost weight as dramatically as this time around.

She managed to lose 10 pounds in her first week and six in her next, with her lowest weight loss in a week still measuring at 1.5 pounds.

Claire Bond, Beccles slimming world consultant, said: “As her consultant I am very proud of her achievement and she is a great example of what can be achieved when you stay focused.”

As well as walking the dog on a regular basis, the Rix family have all stuck to a “green” and “red” diet, or a “food optimising plan.” On green days they eat just vegetables and pasta or potatoes, and on red days they eat just meat with a bit of potato.

Beccles Slimming World meets on a Wednesday night at 7pm at Beccles Middle School. For further details call Claire on 01502 471839.
