Improving standards in education in Waveney is the top priority for Waveney MP Peter Aldous.

After being re-elected into the post at May’s general election, the Conservative MP now plans to visit every school in Waveney, and recently kicked off his tour with a trip to St Benet’s Primary School in Beccles where he was questioned by pupils about his role as an MP.

Mr Aldous has welcomed the recent improvements in schools in the Waveney area, but wants to see standards improve even further. He plans to meet headteachers and teaching staff as well as governors, parents and pupils to hear first hand from them.

“It is important that I see “warts and all” what our schools are like; to see excellence as well the challenges.” he said.

Over the next few months he will continue visiting schools in the constituency, and so far has also visited Ormiston Denes Academy in Lowestoft, meeting headteacher Peter Marshall.

Mr Aldous said: “Education is so important for our young people, for their futures and the future prosperity of our area. Settling for second best is not an option.”

Mr Aldous will also continue to meet regularly with Suffolk County Council educational chiefs to report his findings and to challenge the school improvement service.
