A MOTHER of two from Worlingham was crowned the new Miss Beccles at a selection evening on Friday.

Jenny Williams, 25, will take over from last year's winner Kristen Hoffman in representing Beccles at a variety of events throughout 2008.

Jenny was chosen by a panel of judges from the Beccles Carnival Committee at an event at Beccles Middle School, where two princesses were also chosen: 13-year-old Katie Lovegrove who attends Notre Dame High School in Norwich and lives in Ringsfield, and 10-year-old Eleanor Grace Kay, who attends Worlingham Middle School and also lives in Ringsfield.

Last year's princesses Bailey and Rachel crowned the princesses, and outgoing queen Kristen Hoffman crowned the new Miss Beccles.

Vice-chairman Annette Tackley presented the outgoing queen with a replica trophy and certificate, and chairman Alex Moore presented the outgoing princesses with certificates.

Jenny, the new Miss Beccles, only moved to Worlingham from Loddon in June last year, but said she was delighted to be representing the town. She said: "I'm new to Beccles, and I don't know that much about the town, so I wanted to do something in the local community.

"I'd always been too shy to do something like this, but I'm not now, so I decided to go for it. I really like Beccles - when I moved here I didn't even know where the schools were but the people were so friendly and helped me."

Jenny, who works as a shop assistant in Peacocks at the Riverside in Norwich, also worked as a hairdresser for eight years after she finished at Hobart High School in Loddon. She has two girls, Sophie, four, and Ruby, two, and enjoys shopping, going out with friends and walking her dog.

Jenny's first official duty will be on Saturday, May 10, when she presents the prizes to the Beccles Battle of the Bands winners.

The Beccles Carnival Committee wishes to thank the judges, all the contestants for entering, and last year's queen and princesses for being excellent representatives of Beccles.

If you would like Miss Beccles and her princesses to attend your event telephone 01502 715671.

Photographs of all the entrants will be available to view on the carnival's website at www.becclescarnival.co.uk.
