THREE new priorities have been set for Southwold and Halesworth safer neighbourhood team (SNT) following feedback from members of the public and local councillors.

The new priorities aim to address anti-social behaviour being caused at the Skateboard Park in Halesworth; promoting safe drinking and behaviour in Southwold and Halesworth in the run up to Christmas and New Year; and anti-social behaviour and compliance of licensing laws at the White Swan Public House in Halesworth.

Sergeant Nigel Tompsett from Southwold and Halesworth SNT said: “Our tasking meetings are held monthly and are open to the public. Local SNT officers and partner agencies attend these meetings, which are a good way for residents to raise any issues of local concern. Once concerns have been raised the partnership agencies then decide on the three main priorities and how they will tackle them together.

The previous priorities the SNT tackled were anti-social behaviour on Halloween and Bonfire nights and anti-social use of motor vehicles in Halesworth town. The priority for the White Swan is continuing from last month as more work is to be done.

Anti-social behaviour on Halloween and Bonfire nights was tackled by preventative measures including the distribution of posters, liaising with local shops to ensure they complied with firework laws and do not sell eggs and flour to young people, raising the issue of anti-social behaviour with parents and an increase of high visibility patrols.

The SNT reported that they did not have to take any enforcement action as a result.

The SNT spoke to young drivers about the potential dangers of the anti-social use of motor vehicles and dealt with offences committed by them.

Officers worked with Suffolk fire service to attend high schools to educate young people on safe driving and appropriate messages were put out through the local media.

The next SNT tasking meeting will be held on Wednesday December 2 at Halesworth Council Chambers in London Road, Halesworth at 2.30pm. If you are unable to make this meeting or would like to contact the team you can email them at southwoldhalesworth.snt@suffolk.pnn.police.uk or write to Southwold and Halesworth SNT at Southwold Police Station, Station Road, Southwold, IP18 6BB.
