The government has today paved the way for eight new nuclear power stations in the UK, including another reactor at Sizewell on the Suffolk coast.

Energy secretary Chris Huhne has unveiled his plans for the future of Britain's energy supply in a statement to Parliament and he gave the thumbs up to proposals for Sizewell C power station.

Formal consultation on the plans for Sizewell C could start as early as next year and the plant could be up and running by 2020.
