A BID to stop scrumptious apples going to waste in gardens in the Beccles area has been launched by a group aiming to marry the unwanted fruits with people keen to use them.

Under the umbrella of Sustainable Beccles, organisers want to hear from people who have trees but no use for the fruit.

A scheme spokesman said: “Older gardens often have fruit trees that are no longer loved or picked - maybe the owner just can't manage the job any longer or perhaps the new occu-pants have no use for the apples.”

They would like to hear from apple tree owners, volunteers to pick and store the fruit and people who can use the apples.
