Freeview viewers in Norfolk describe signal loss as ‘very annoying’

Freeview viewers across Norfolk have described their loss of signal as ‘very annoying’ after being asked to retune their TVs.
Users of the TV service were told to retune their sets last week to make sure they kept receiving a full set of channels.
But some people have been experiencing problems after the engineering works were carried out on the main transmitter at Tacolneston, near Long Stratton.
Lorraine Smith, from Honing, said: “Can’t get any BBC channels.
“Rang Freeview and they sent someone out and they told me I need a new aerial.
“Well I didn’t have any problems before so does that mean everyone now needs a new aerial now they’ve done whatever they have done?”
Ann Eccleston, from Weybourne, added: “Can’t get channels one, two or three in Weybourne and keep losing five.
“It’s very annoying. I’m not the only one to be affected.”
And Sharon Samways, from Sea Palling, said: “I don’t know what they did but our bedroom TVs have lost over half the channels despite re-tuning.
“My mum had problems over in Frettenham.
“When she rang Snellings (electronics rental and repair) on Friday last week they already had 180 people on their list of call outs to get round.”
A Freeview spokesperson said some older aerials may need to be replaced for viewers to continue receiving all available channels.
The spokesperson said: “Anyone missing Freeview channels following changes at the Tacolneston transmitter on June 6 should retune their TV or digital box.
“If this doesn’t restore these services, viewers can call the Freeview Advice Line on freephone 0808 100 0288 for further advice.
“In a small number of cases some older aerials may need to a replaced to continue receiving all available channels.
“Viewers may be eligible for free in-home support, including an aerial replacement, where this is the case.”
The engineering works were part of a series of improvements to transmitters up and down the country designed to make way for 5G mobile phone signals.
The retune applied to YouView, BT TV, TalkTalk TV, EE, and Now TV customers.
