Oftsed inspectors have praised the "substantial improvement" at Bungay High School in their latest report published this week.

The school has been graded good in all five key areas after being told it required improvement at the last inspection in 2014. The areas include effectiveness of leadership and management, quality of teaching, personal development, behaviour and welfare and 16 to 19 study programmes.

The report said the achievement of pupils has improved markedly and is now in line with national averages and continues to improve.

It said leaders throughout the school share a determination to continue the improvement in standards and pupils benefit from a broad curriculum supplemented by a wide range of extra activities.

Headteacher Angelo Goduti said they are delighted with the rating.

“We have fantastic students and staff; this is clearly reflected in the report,” he said.

“We are extremely proud that students were thoroughly praised for their “strong” commitment to learning and “impeccable” conduct in lessons and around the school in social times. Teachers’ high expectations and the atmosphere they create has led to great learning, consistency and a marked improvement in results at all levels.

“In 2016, our students’ achievement at GCSE was significantly positive and in the top 30pc nationally. It is testament to the hard work of students and staff that this has been fully recognised.”

In order to improve further, the report said leaders at all levels need to continue to improve the quality of teaching.
