A town park which has been in decline for the past decade is set to be transformed thanks to the efforts of a group of residents.

The team of parents joined up with Beccles town councillors Elfrede Brambley-Crawshaw and Sam Kenward to make plans for improving Townlands park, off Mill Road, which has been in a state of disrepair for 10 years.

Mrs Brambley-Crawshaw, who has spearheaded the initiative, is determined to improve the facilities for the local children.

She said: “The group have decided to apply for funding and make a plan for spring 2016, when the whole park will be re-painted, bulbs planted, repair work done and events planned for the children in the area and I am very happy to co-ordinate.”

She said the community group was passionate about the park and many remember a time when it was well cared for and supported by local residents.

One parent, Emily Aldred, said: “Ten years ago this park was the best in the area, there used to be events for the children like easter egg hunts.

“It will be wonderful to regain that for the community.”

The group is looking to gather as much support as possible so if you are a local resident and would like to support the work being done, contact Mrs Brambley-Crawshaw at Beccles town hall or email brambleycrawshaw@gmail.com

The plans follow an earlier initiative which saw work carried out on the town’s Common play park

In August, the two councillors teamed up with a group of volunteers to re-painting the equipment and transform the area to make it more attractive to visitors.
