There are few things more nostalgic than the toys and games from your childhood.

As the old saying goes, "you don't stop playing when you get old - you get old when you stop playing."

This weekend, families can play with the toys of yesteryear as Loddon's Holy Trinity Church hosts Playtime Old and New, welcoming children aged eight or 88.

Do you remember playing bezique? Or did you have a Tressy doll with hair that grows? Maybe you loved flicking tiny Subbuteo footballers across their cloth pitch.

All these toys and many more will be available at the church from 10am to 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday (June 22-23).

"Playtime Old and New is a chance for you to re-live your childhood and to engage in a bit of nostalgia," said organiser Nina Owen.

"It's also a great event for the children and families of today to come and play. We're offering something for everyone, so all we need now is a crowd of people to enjoy it."

If the weather is fine there will be outdoor toys as well, so the opportunity has arrived to see if you can still walk on stilts.

And when it's time for a pause, a cafe will provide savouries, cakes and cream teas, plus an assortment of board games from today and times past.

But playtime doesn't always mean toys and for some people it's a chance to settle down with a good book or potter in the garden.

Also on offer will be a giant second-hand book sale and plant stall to keep you busy while family or friends grapple with chess, scrabble or maybe Mousetrap.

For others, playtime means getting the camera out, so there will be a display of photos set up by Chet Valley Photography Club and a collection of old cameras to jog the memory of those who enjoy photography.
