Pub landlords and football fans in Waveney have been warned not to let anti-social behaviour ruin their enjoyment of the World Cup.

Waveney District Council and Suffolk police have issued recommendations to all licensed premises in a bid to keep disturbances to a minimum and warned that robust action will be taken if problems occur.

Busy public houses are being asked to have an appropriate number of trained door staff in place to ensure that they do not become overcrowded.

Landlords and bar managers are also being asked to make sure that bottles and glasses are not taken outside and to consider using plastic glasses inside.

Supt Ian Sidney said: 'Just as we would ask all members of the public to behave appropriately, we are speaking to every dingle licensee and reminding them of their responsibilities.

'They will want the next month to go as smoothly as we do and if we all work together, we can all enjoy a successful, enjoyable and trouble-free World Cup.'
