POLICE are renewing appeals for information following a distraction burglary at the home of a 97-year-old lady in Ballygate yesterday afternoon, January 6.

Just after 3pm a man knocked at her door and asked for a glass of water. The woman went to get a glass for him but when she returned the man had gone. A few moments later the lady discovered her purse, containing cash, had been stolen.

The offender is described as being around 6ft tall, of large build and is thought to have been wearing a large haversack on his shoulders.

It is thought the offender may have left the scene heading towards Puddingmoor. Did you see a man meeting this description in the area around this time? If you saw him - perhaps where he went or getting into a vehicle - or if you have any other information that may help please call DC 948 Rogers on 01986 835300.
