Police have moved to reassure the public following a report of a woman trying to grab a baby on a train.

British Transport Police (BTP) received a report on Thursday, June 20, regarding a woman's behaviour on the 5.02pm train travelling from Lowestoft to Ipswich.

As the train reached Halesworth, a woman - who was with a male companion - "tried to grab" a fellow passenger's baby. The mother managed to get away with her baby before leaving the train.

After concerns were raised, police are looking to dispel fears among members of the public and say an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has been opened.

A spokesman for BTP said: "British Transport Police received a report yesterday of a woman behaving inappropriately towards a baby on a train at Halesworth.

"The baby is safe and well, and enquiries are ongoing."
