The popular Grand Henham Steam Rally regularly attracts thousands of visitors, and preparations are in full swing ahead of the 43rd annual event this weekend.

Organisers are promising a fantastic family day out – as monster trucks, vintage vehicles and steam engines will be on display for all to enjoy.

Having returned to its “spiritual home” of Henham Park in September last year, the 43rd Grand Henham Steam Rally takes place on September 16-17 at the venue near Southwold once more.

With amazing displays, parades and attractions, this year the rally will feature Big Pete Ltd Monster Trucks, who will be bringing their super-sized stunts to the Len Murray Arena on both days.

There will also be hundreds of vintage and classic vehicles, working steam engines, live music, the Ken Fox Wall of Death, a vintage fairground, heavy horses as well as avenues of trade stalls and crafts.

And for the first time in the rally’s history, modified and custom vehicles will be exhibiting in an exciting new class.

Discussing the new class prior to the event, chairman of the rally organising committee, Mike Powell-Evans, said: “This is an exciting new category and a first in the rally’s history.”

As a charity, the rally raises thousands of pounds each year for numerous organisations, including Wangford and District Community Council, Southwold (Sole Bay) Lions Club and the parochial Church Councils of Sotherton, Wangford cum Henham and Uggeshall.

Each year, the rally organisers also donate to additional charities and this year they have chosen Clinks Care Farm at Toft Monks, the Halesworth Community Nursing Care Fund (HCNCF) and the Sandra Chapman Centre at the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston to benefit.

Entry is just £12 on the gate for adults and over 14s, £3 for children aged eight to 14 and children under eight go free.
