ALBERT Pye Primary School in Beccles has received an impressive Ofsted report, with its early years foundation stage provision coming in for particular praise.

Early years received an outstanding grade, while the school as a whole was rated as good.

The report said that resources at the Early Years Foundation Stage are outstanding, and that staff provide a high level care “so children blossom individually”.

The school also received the top grade for the “effectiveness of the governing body in challenging the school so that weaknesses are tackled decisively and statutory responsibilities are met,” and also for “the effectiveness with which the school promotes equality of opportunity and challenges discrimination.”

The extent to which the curriculum meets the pupils' needs and the effectiveness of care, guidance and support were also rated as outstanding.

To improve, the report states that the quality of teaching should be raised and that staff should use a consistent approach to the management of behaviour. Headteacher Melanie Mills said: “Staff have worked hard to develop our curriculum and children's enjoyment of learning and we are very proud that this has been recognised in our report.

“At The Albert Pye, children come first and we are particularly pleased that the care staff give to all children is identified as a strength.

“We are also very proud that our excellent provision for Early Years has been graded outstanding in all areas.

“We are delighted to receive this very good report which we feel accurately reflects the many strengths of our school.

“This report is a credit to all our staff, governors and parents who have worked so hard to make improvements for our children.”
