THE controversial rabbit cull at Beccles Common will go ahead, councillors decided this week.

Beccles Town Council met on Tuesday and voted in favour of gassing the rabbits.

Experts from Natural England had recommended gassing as the most appropriate way of culling the rabbits but Suffolk Wildlife Trust were in favour of using ferrets to keep the rabbit numbers under control.

A town council spokesman said: “Town councillors have a duty to protect the common and this was felt the most appropriate way of carrying out the cull.”
