BBC Radio Suffolk's Mark Murphy is hoping to get fans all shook up as he takes to the stage as Elvis Presley to raise money for East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH).

The breakfast show host plans to bring The King to life at the Spa Pavilion Theatre in Felixstowe for BBC Suffolk's Big Night Out in November.

All money raised at the event will go towards EACH's Treehouse Appeal to raise 3million for a new children's hospice in Ipswich.

Mr Murphy, 46, said: “Elvis has got to be the greatest showman ever, especially in the Vegas years.

“I was looking for someone of my height and stature so I went for Elvis in the burger years.”

The presenter announced on his show yesterday morning he was going to sing The King's classic Love Me Tender at the variety show on November 10.

As well as trying to perfect Elvis's voice, Mr Murphy is also working hard to recreate his snake-hipped moves, complete with rhinestone jumpsuit.

“I'm working on the lip curl and the wiggle,” he said. “But I am getting slightly older so I'm a little worried about dislocating my hip.

“I'm taking it very seriously. The women of the audience deserve that.”

Presenters at the station are all doing their bit to help build a specially-designed hospice off Bixley Road in Ipswich to care for life-threatened youngsters in Suffolk and North Essex.

At last year's show, presenter Rob Dunger bared all in a Full Monty strip.

This year, the daring DJ will join Darren Rosier for a Pete and Dud tribute to double act Peter Cook and Dudley Moore.

“I'm really excited about it,” Mr Murphy said. “It's a chance for us to show off some of our talents although some people have shown more than others in the past.”

Radio Suffolk has chosen EACH's Treehouse Appeal as its charity of the year, with staff organising events to raise cash for the campaign.

Fellow presenter Lesley Dolphin is currently in training to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in January next year.

Mr Murphy added: “Staff at EACH have done some magnificent work in a tiny bungalow and they really need an up-to-date premises.

“If everyone did their little bit, we would get there. We just need to get it built.”

The East Anglian Daily Times is also backing the Treehouse appeal, for which more than 300,000 has already been raised.

Tickets for the event are available priced 12 on the Felixstowe Spa Pavilion's website at www.thespapavilion.org or by phoning 01394 282126.
