An evening of readings raised more than £1,000 for ten charities in Beccles.

The event, ‘An Evening of East Anglian and Other Delights’, saw performances of readings with dialect and humour and was held at St Michael’s Church on Thursday, September 27.

Gill and John Campbell, Hilary and Jon Roots, and Mark Bee all reading to more than 200 people in the church.

More than £1,200 was raised by the evening, with the Thirst Youth Cafe raising £383, the Sea Cadets £160, with Abbeyfield, Barsham Church, Beccles Museum, East Suffolk Blind Association, Hungate Church, Ringsfield Church, STEP, and Three Rivers Talking Newspaper all raising at least £100 through ticket sales.

Among the readings on the programme included Boy John letters delivered by Mark Bee, historical and amusing sketches from the Huntingfield Paintress by John Campbell, and the whole cast with an epic Wolf and Little Pigs.
