Over six hundred people flocked to the banks of the River Waveney at Falcon Meadow to celebrate the third Great Bungay Duck Race.
And it wasn’t just the crowd which broke records, with all three of the event’s duck racing categories attracting the highest entry figures.
The opening race for business ducks sponsored by companies and organisations was more than 70 strong, followed by the owner-decorated puddleducks with their biggest ever fleet. For the grand ticket-sponsored duckling race, over a thousand ducklings descended on the course, before plunging over the weir to the finish line below Bungay Sluice.
The hot weather brought out the crowds, but also delivered the slowest river flow rate experienced so far, and posed extra problems for the on-the-water team from Waveney Valley Canoe Club.
The event was run by Falcon Meadow Community Trust, and it’s expected to contribute more than £6,000 towards the purchase of Falcon Meadow as a publicly-owned natural amenity.
