THE annual Lights to Remember service takes place at St Michael's Church, Beccles, on Sunday from 6.30pm.

The evening is a service of thanksgiving and remembrance and raises funds for Marie Curie.

With the coupon printed in this week's Journal, you can sponsor a candle at the service in memory of someone who has died, is ill, or living far away.

Rev John Beauchamp who is taking the service said: “We all have memories of people that have touched our lives but who have died both recently and in the past.

“Memories of people who have brought love and joy, laughter and care, peace and security into our lives and whose memory we now cherish. Christmas is a particular time of memories as we often look back on childhood Christmases, family Christmases and other Christmases from the past and remember the people and the characters that have helped to make Christmas a special time for us.

“Lights to Remember is an opportunity to celebrate and give thanks for the lives of all those we have known and loved who have now died and a chance to thank God both for their lives and for the rest they now enjoy.”

The service will include readings and poetry, hymns and music and an opportunity to light a personal candle of remembrance for those you come to remember. There will also be a collection for the work of Marie Curie Cancer care, who support many terminally ill patients and their families in their own homes.”

If you need any information about Marie Curie Cancer Care or would like to volunteer as an individual or as part of a group, write to Angela Bussey, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Old School Hall, Well Street, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP33 1EQ; telephone 01284 747385; or email angela.bussey@mariecurie.org.uk.
