Bungay Rotary Club has presented a total of 330 Usborne illustrated dictionaries to children at seven primary schools in Bungay and district.
It has been a mammoth and marathon effort by vocational committee chairman Chris Greig and his team, but he said the excited eagerness on the faces of the children receiving the books, and the way they quickly opened them and looked for words, made it all worthwhile.
The reason for presenting so many dictionaries - each with the name of the individual pupil inscribed in it - is that the club decided to give them to children in Year 4 and 5 as well as the leavers in Year 6, so that they would be able to use them in their school work before moving on to secondary education.
Schools receiving them were Bungay, St Edmund’s Catholic, Woodton, Ellingham, Earsham, Ditchingham and Ilketshall St Lawrence primary schools.
They were presented by president Michael Ingram.
