The Beccles rowing club is pleased to be celebrating 30 years on the water, with a special anniversary row and lunch this weekend.

Founded in 1989, the club has regularly met on the river Waveney to teach beginners and to practice and compete with more experienced rowers.

On Sunday, October 6, the club will be making their way along the Waveney from 9.30am to 12pm, and they are asking for residents to give them a wave as they pass.

Beccles Rowing club now has a modern boathouse and wide selection of boats to cater to rowers of every skill level.

Over its 30 year history, the club has welcomed members ranging from 13-year-olds to those over 80.

Hannah Smith, current chairman of the club, said: "Sunday's row is a great opportunity for our members to get together and celebrate the club's 30th year.

"We hope that the people of Beccles will keep an eye out for our red t-shirts and give us a wave as our crews make their way along the Waveney, from our boathouse on Puddingmoor, towards the Waveney River Centre and back.

"It is an absolute pleasure to be part of such an inclusive and sociable club and to be celebrating this momentous occasion with our members this weekend."

Beccles town mayor Andrea Downes will be celebrating the club's anniversary at a lunch with members after their row.

Chair Hannah Smith said: "Whilst many enjoy a recreational row, there are always opportunities for us to refine technique and to test ourselves at competitions across the country."

Alongside regular rowers, some members of their club such as Andrew Todd have been victorious in international regattas.

Mrs Smith said: "Our members have seen some great successes over the last 30 years and we hope to continue to share our love of the water for many more to come."

Mrs Smith added she was keen to express the club is always willing to recruit new members, no matter age or ability.
