Sale secures future of The Swan Inn in Loddon

The future of a historic inn in Loddon appears to be secure after the property was sold to a local buyer who plans to refurbish and reopen it.

The town's Swan Inn was one of more than 40 pubs across the country facing uncertainty after management company GRS Inns went into administration last February.

The Grade II-listed property has been closed for several months and concerns had been raised about its deteriorating condition.

But agents Christie & Co have now announced the sale of the inn to a local buyer who plans to re-open the pub after a period of refurbishment.

The inn is in the centre of Loddon and has two bars on the ground floor with seating for over 50 customers, and a function room and trade kitchen on the first floor.

Private accommodation is on the second floor comprising four double bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen and bathroom.

Set within approximately one acre, there is a large car park at the rear, a single-storey extension offering potential for conversion and a bowling green.

This is used under an agreement by the village bowling club, something Christie & Co say the incoming buyer has confirmed will continue.

Bill Colquhoun, director at Christie & Co, said: 'We are pleased to have sold The Swan Inn to a buyer who will re-open the pub.

'We understand that this is a very popular outcome with the local community, which is also very keen to ensure the future of both the outdoor and indoor bowls clubs. As a result, the buyer has agreed to protect these local activities.'

Local people yesterday welcomed the news and said the building could be a great asset to Loddon.

Loddon parish councillor Rod Williams said: 'I think it is fair to say the council has been concerned for some time about the state of it as it had been falling into a state of disrepair. It was getting dilapidated prior to its closing. It is a beautiful building and Grade II-listed.

'In principle, as a resident of the village, I am pleased to see it being taken on. It could be a great asset if done properly.'
