PUPILS from Beccles, Bungay and Halesworth will be taking part in a national initiative that allows them to experience real life situations through theatre-based scenarios.

The scenarios are run by trained volunteers who engage the children through role-play and conclude with questions-and-answers from which the children are advised of the most appropriate course of action.

The initiative is called Crucial Crew, and is run by Waveney District Council, St John Ambulance, Suffolk Police, Suffolk Fire and Rescue, EDF Energy, Suffolk County Council and Community Connections.

The sessions will involve Bungay Middle School, Worlingham Middle School, Halesworth Middle School and Beccles Middle School.

Councillor Mary Rudd, portfolio holder for community safety at Waveney District Council, said: “Crucial Crew is an example of multi-agency partnership working at its best.

“The fact that so many are committed to this initiative demonstrates just how 'crucial' they believe this process to be. Providing safety messages from a wide range of agencies to a large number of children in a way that is both fun and memorable is no small feat and all those involved should be commended.”
