THERE will be a number of services for Remembrance Sunday as local people pay tribute to those who have died in conflict.

In Halesworth there will be a service at 3pm at St Mary's, with the Halesworth Royal British Legion in attendance. The Rev Richard Edwards will be preaching for the last time before his retirement.

At St Mary's in Walpole there will be a service at 10.50am, again with the Royal British Legion.

In Loddon the Remembrance parade starts at the White Horse in Chedgrave at 10.15am and moves off at 10.35am into Church Plain. A short ceremony will also take place at the war memorial in Church Plain on Tuesday at 11am.

Bungay's annual Remembrance service takes place at 3pm at St Mary's Church, and will include a parade through the town from the Priory Lane car park, with standards of the Royal British Legion, and a military vehicle.

Town dignitaries, Legion members and anyone who would like to march should be at the start ready to parade by 2.30pm.

Following the service, the traditional wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the war memorial at about 4pm, and afterwards people are invited to the Legion clubroom in Priory Lane for refreshments.

At St Michael's Church in Beccles a silence will be observed at the 9am and 10.30am services, and again at the Royal British Legion service of remembrance which begins at Beccles War Memorial at 2pm, and continues in St Michael's at 2.45pm.

There is also the chance to attend a Service for Peace in St Michael's at 6.30pm, where prayers for world peace will be offered and there will be the chance to light a peace candle.

In Beccles town centre at 11am on Tuesday there will be a traditional two minutes' silence in memory of the first world war Armistice.

The Rev John Beauchamp, rector at St Michael's and St Luke's churches, said: “In a world where conflicts still rage and people still die in battle it is important that we pray for peace.

“At this Remembrance time we hold both of these things together, remembering those who have died in conflicts, recent and in the past, and praying that we can be peacemakers in today's world.”
