A DEVELOPMENT of sheltered flats in Bungay is set to get the go-ahead, despite concerns about parking.
The 34 flats for old people are being put forward by developer McCarthy and Stone on the Three Willows Garden Centre site on St John's Road. The design has been welcomed by the Bungay Society and the Suffolk Preservation Society, but both have questioned whether there is enough parking for residents and staff. The plans include 14 spaces, plus four to charge battery-powered cars.
McCarthy and Stone, a specialist in this market, says most of its residents are in their late 70s or older and it believes that will be enough parking. The 25 one-bedroom and nine two-bedroom flats will be sold on a 125-year-lease to people who are over 60.
The plans, for a single large T-shaped building, also include a communal lounge, guest room, warden's flat and office.
The garden centre is moving to a new location on Flixton Road.
A decision will be made by Waveney District Council's planning committee on Wednesday.
