More than 200 people took their pooches along to a companion dog show to raise money for two cancer charities.

Dog breeder Louise Clarke, who has seen her father, partner and friend battle cancer in recent years, hosted the event at St Olaves Village Hall in aid of Prostate Cancer UK and Target Ovarian Cancer.

The charities will share a pot of £1,800, surpassing the sum raised at similar event two years ago that was also organised by Ms Clarke.

“It’s been really amazing to receive so much support from the general public. The turnout was absolutely brilliant and really caught us by surprise,” said Ms Clarke. “It took us an age to count the number of dogs, let alone the money we raised!

“Now we’re looking ahead to next year and have already underlined some of the judges who are going to be involved. “We’d also like to start fundraising for a dementia charity as well.”
