Film fans are in for a special treat this summer as Beccles is set to play host to a large outdoor cinema.

Pop Up Pictures, which is based in Norwich, is bringing The Great Outdoor Cinema Club to Caxton Meadow between June 30 and July 2, and over three consecutive nights will be screening much-loved classic films under the stars.

It starts with Throwback Thursday on June 30 and the chance to enjoy Steven Spielberg's cult adventure The Goonies, while supernatural comedy Ghostbusters will be screened during Fright Night on Friday, July 1.

And the final screening on Saturday, July 2, will have the audience singing along to the box office hit Dirty Dancing.

Pop up Pictures is run by event planners Danny Banthorpe and Andrew Bunn, as well as web developer Olly Sear and a team of promoters, who are aiming to put on 24 screenings across eight locations between June and August.

Mr Banthorpe said: 'We could see there was a demand there for it so we set up the company and did a few showings last year to great success.

'In each area we have set up an online poll to gauge what kinds of films people want to see.'

The trio started with pilot events at Lenwade House in Norwich and Fritton Lake last year after noticing interest from people on social media.

Mr Banthorpe said: 'We did well at Fritton and it was a lovely location and it always helps if a venue doesn't need lots of other logistics looking at such as fencing, which Beccles doesn't. It's also really close to the town so people can walk in and they don't have to travel too far.'

Mr Banthorpe said he was also looking to put on appropriate films in venues such as Lenwade's Dinosaur Park and Africa Alive in Kessingland.

'It's such a fun concept for bespoke films to be able to put on in the perfect place,' he said.

There will be limited parking at Beccles Common car park and the sports and social club car park off Ken Markland Way, although the organisers aree encouraging people to walk down, car share, get the train or find suitable parking in the town centre and walk down.

Refreshments such as wood fire pizza, nachos and popcorn will be available to buy on site, as well as tea, coffee and a licensed bar.

People are encouraged to take chairs, deck chairs or blankets to sit on and warm clothing.

Each film will start soon after sunset, around 9pm, so much of the film will be played under a night sky.

The hire fee of Caxton Meadow will go towards helping to raise funds for Beccles Caxton Football Club, which is run by one of Mr Banthorpe's team.

Tickets are £12 for adults, £12 for one adult and one child, £6 for an extra child and £8 for teenagers between 15 and 17.

They are currently available on Facebook by searching for Pop Up Pictures or visit www.popuppictures.com

A Beccles ticket venue is also being organised.
