A charity transport group has moved a step closer to purchasing a new minibus thanks to a £4,000 donation.

The money was donated to Bungay Area Community Transport (BACT) by Bungay Lions, who chose the transport group as its local charity for the year.

BACT runs a wide range of community transport services to people living in Beccles, Bungay and the surrounding villages, and £36,000 of the £55,000 needed to purchase a new minibus has now been raised.

The new bus will be used for the group’s door to door dial-a-ride service and for social outings for local groups.

Debbie Blowers, BACT manager, said: “We are really grateful to the Lions for its support and we have formed a really good partnership over the past year. We are now well on our way to achieving our target and the new bus will be available to those who find it difficult to access other forms of transport and to local
not-for-profit organisations.

“For many the dial-a-ride service helps people to avoid isolation and becomes a social club on wheels. So, as well as allowing passengers to access local services the bus also allows them to meet new people, make friends and enjoy social activities.

“Although our services are well used, we know there are many people who still do not know we exist so we are appealing to relatives, friends and neighbours to spread the word and tell anyone who they feel could benefit from our services to get in touch.”

BACT services help people, including the elderly, those with impaired mobility and the rurally isolated, to carry out important tasks such as attend medical appointments, pay bills, go shopping and visit family and friends.
