A WORLINGHAM Middle School pupil proved every dog has its day after landing second place in the Young Kennel Club Agility Dog of the Year with Sam, a 10-year-old Swedish Volehound.
Karl Munnings, 12, and Sam had to race round a 16-obstacle course but were just beaten to the top spot by Daniel Burton and his Border Collie.
Nearly 23,000 dogs watched by 160,000 people packed into Birmingham's NEC with the grand prize for Best in Show being won by a giant schnauzer named Philippe.
And a delighted Karl revealed Sam is going to hang his collar up from competition after this success.
“I got into the final last year but to come second this year is incredible,” he said. “I thought I had no chance to win because he is not as athletic as some of the other dogs but he did really well.
“We have been training him for four years and this is the best result we have ever had. “He is a very loving dog and is my best friend in the whole world.
