A woman has died in a serious crash in north Suffolk – the second road fatality in the county during the past week.

Emergency services were called to reports of a crash on the A12 in Frostenden, near the junction with Gypsy Lane, at just after 6pm on Wednesday night.

A blue Peugeot 206 and black Isuzu D-Max were reported to have collided near the junction with Gypsy Lane.

Police confirmed yesterday that a woman passenger in the Peugeot had died at the scene.

The woman driving the Peugeot was also injured and taken to James Paget Hospital in Gorleston with serious leg injuries.

A man driving the Isuzu was described as “walking wounded”.

The crash comes just days after 19-year-old Ewan Clover died during a crash involving a police car and ambulance on the A14 near his home in Rougham at around 4.35am on Sunday.

Police have not confirmed the identity of the woman who died on Wednesday night.

Tony Goldson, who represents the division at Suffolk County Council said the news had come as a “terrible shock”.

“I’m sure it will also have been a terrible shock to the people of Frostenden and the surrounding area,” he added. “You just cannot plan for tragedies such as these. My thoughts are with the families having to come to terms with this death.”

Mr Goldson said there had been concerns with the A12’s safety in north Suffolk but nothing specifically about the stretch of the road through Frostenden. “I will be asking questions to see if there’s anything that can be done to stop this happening again,” he added.

Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore said his thoughts and prayers were with the friends and family of the deceased.

As a matter of reassurance to all Suffolk road users there is a continuing multi agency approach to do whatever is possible to improve road safety because our road network is important for everyone,” he added. “It goes without saying the need to take great care and keep safe when driving especially as the nights lengthen and conditions deteriorate.”

The road was closed for seven hours between Wangford and Wrentham while investigation work was carried out. .
