An elderly woman who reported missing jewellery to police was not the victim of a distraction burglary, officers confirm.

After being visited by a man claiming to check the electricity meter upstairs at her Denmark Road home, in Beccles, on Sunday, March 17, the woman reported two items of jewellery were missing when she checked on Thursday, March 21.

The incident was reported to Suffolk Police, who issued an appeal for witnesses or anyone in the area who noticed anything suspicious at the time.

However, the items of jewellery were later found inside the house, with detectives now satisfied no crime has taken place.
