Suffolk police received more than 800 emergency calls during Storm Doris yesterday - up from its daily average of about 230.

The calls were received between 7am and midnight.

A police spokesman said: 'You are talking about an additional 600 999 calls there.

'It is hard to break down the figures but the majority of extra calls are going to be weather related.

'We had a very busy day yesterday.'

High winds caused chaos on the region's roads yesterday with trees, telephone and electrical poles and debris blocking routes throughout Suffolk.

Some homes were still without power this morning as UK Power Networks worked to repair the damage caused by the high winds.

Amongst those affected was Beccles Free School, which was closed today due to a power cut.
