It was a decade that brought the world Beatlemania, the first man on the moon and the Summer of Love, and now the swinging sixties are set to take centre stage at this year’s Scarecrow Festival in Loddon and Chedgrave.

Colourful creations of all shapes and sizes have started appearing on the streets this morning, and you may just find yourself bumping into Ringo, James Bond or Twiggy as you wander around.

The scarecrow festival runs through to Friday, June 22, and trail maps costing £1 are available from Rosy Lee’s Tea Room, A J Ward Butchers, Loddon tourist information and Bev’s discount store.

A wealth of entertainment is then lined up for Saturday, June 16, from 11am through until early evening with a parade, live music, tombola, fun fair, stalls, and alpacas taking over Loddon and Chedgrave.

The parade and walking procession starts from opposite the White Horse pub in Chedgrave at 11am and will be led by Brazilian musician Duda Moleque along with students from the Loddon Primary Federation. The parade will move through the High Street in Loddon to Church Plain and on to the Jubilee Centre playing field where the main part of the entertainment will be taking place.

There will be live music from noon to 5pm, with Kenny Bernard taking to the stage at noon, Susan Jane at 1.30pm, Peter Turrel at 3pm, and Kamensko at 4pm. Rumours of a surprise appearance by Eric Clapton or Paul McCartney are also flying around, however they are most likely to be there in scarecrow form.

The fun fair and the chance to get up close with the alpacas will keep the children entertained, and there will also be food and drink on offer.

While there’s no obligation to dress to suit the sixties theme, visitors are most welcome to do so to help the event truly go with a swing.

For more information or to get involved with the event, call organiser Caroline Dwen at Roys Lee’s Tea Room on 01508 520204.
