The Three Rivers Talking Newspaper celebrated the efforts of their volunteers who they are “indebted to” at their recent Annual General Meeting.

The charity, which was set up 24 years ago, records stories from the Beccles and Bungay Journal and local free sheets for the blind and partially sighted, and relies on the work of its volunteers.

Special thanks were given to former treasure Joan Wuyts - who cofounded the talking newspaper along with her late husband David - and volunteers Pete and Pam Martin and Rita Clarke.

All four were presented with framed long-service certificates and were personally thanked by chairman of the charity Helen Kirby and vice president Vaughan Shea.

“We are much indebted to our four colleagues for their years of dedication in helping to prepare, record and distribute our talking newspaper,” said Mrs Kirby. “Joan has been involved with Three Rivers right from the outset and, aside from her role as treasurer, carried out several other duties and was a constant support to her late husband and our former president, David.

“Similarly, Rita was our publicity officer and later served as chairman, while Peter and his wife Pam will always be remembered for the wonderful fundraising lunches they held at their home.

“All four have been an inspiration to those of us following in their footsteps.”

The Three Rivers Talking Newspaper relies on voluntary contributions and fundraising activities with volunteers recording themselves reading the articles every Friday.

It is then delivered to people living in Beccles, Bungay, Halesworth, Loddon and the surrounding areas.
