BUNGAY Rotary Club is inviting clubs, offices, pubs or ad hoc groups to enter teams in a kart-racing evening at Ellough Park raceway next month.
It is being organised to raise funds for TradeAid, a Rotary initiated charity that sends large boxes of new tools to disadvantaged areas of the world to kick start people’s livelihoods after disasters or to enable them to start work for the first time.
Teams of four or five a needed, at the discount rate of £100 a team (£20 per person for a team of five). The racing will be on Friday, June 17, starting at 6.30pm.
The outdoor track is a purpose built, 1065 metre long, circuit and hosts British and European championship events. The karts are twin-engined Honda petrol powered, and apparently capable of speeds up to 65mph.
Spectators will be welcome to cheer on their teams, and refreshments will be provided, with proceeds to Trade Aid.
The race will be a team event with teams of four or five drivers over the age of 16, with driver changes taking place during the one and a half hour race. The circuit can accommodate up to 20 teams. All safety clothing and helmets will be provided. Trophies for the first three teams will be presented. The programme of the evening will be: 6.30 - Arrive and get safety clothing; 6.45 - Safety meeting; 7pm - 15 minute testing; 7.30 - main race; 9pm - finish and presentation.
If you would like to enter a team, contact Howard Birch on 01502 711888 for more details. If it is successful it would develop into an annual Bungay kart-racing event.
