FAST and furious aerial displays will be among the attractions at Seething Airfield's Charity Airday next weekend.

Visitors will be treated to some stunning aerobatics displays over the skies near Brooke, and the emotive sight of aircraft from the Second World War.

Headlining the two-hour air display will be the internationally renowned Swift Aerobatic Team, and for the first time at Seething, there will be an appearance by the historical de Havilland Vampire Jet, which was developed at the end of World War II.

Joining them will be the thrilling close-formation aerobatics of Richard Grace's Pitts aircraft, some speedy action from the Me108 and Yak 52, and the familiar sight of local display pilot Maurice Hammond with his North American P-51 Mustang.

Before the display there will be an opportunity to walk along the flight-line to get a closer look at some of the aircraft taking part and talk to some of the display pilots.

This year's event marks two special anniversaries. Not only is it the 10th staging of the charity airday, it also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Waveney Flying Group, who re-opened Seething Airfield as a base for light aircraft in 1960. Formed by a group of dedicated aviation enthusiasts, the club's ethos was to bring flying within reach of people on the street, which was achieved by providing affordable training and flying. The airfield was, and still is operated solely by club members and continues to be a popular base for low cost flying and pilot training in Norfolk.

Those involved in the anniversary celebrations will miss the presence of holiday entrepreneur and keen pilot Jimmy Hoseason, who was one of the co-founders of the flying group who died in November aged 82.

Seething Airfield's rich history saw it constructed as a base for Liberator bombers for the USAF 448th Bomb Group, and its control tower is now home to a museum which is open on the first Sunday of every month.

This year the airday will raise funds for Help for Heroes and East Anglian Air Ambulance. It is hoped that the helicopter Rescue One will be able to fly in so visitors will get the opportunity to talk to the crew.

The event presents the ideal opportunity to anyone interested in finding out how to take to the skies, as members of clubs and societies will be on hand to talk to visitors about their particular forms of flying, including gliders, microlights, hang gliders, and parachutists.

There will be a flight simulator ride to experience some of thrills of flying, and short helicopter pleasure-flights, along with the a range of trade stalls, children's attractions classic cars and bikes, and military vehicles.

The event takes place next Sunday between 10am and 5pm. Visit www.seething-airfield.com/airday
