Almost £6,000 has been split between five community projects in the Bungay area.

The money was raised at this year’s Bungay Town Reeve’s Summer Ball, and the cheques were presented in a short ceremony at Bungay Castle by John and Jayne Groom who organised the ball.

A cheque for £1,750 was received by Terry Reeve, town reeve of Bungay, in support of his appeal which is aiding the establishment of the new Bungay youth choir Cantaria, set up by Jason Collins.

Three cheques for £1,000 were given to The Wish Upon a Star Bungay Christmas lights fund, the Friends of All Saints Church in Mettingham who are raising funds for urgent repairs to the church, and the Honeypot Centre project which is working to provide a playpark and new community centre at the Old Grammar School field.

Bungay and District Guides were presented with £500 towards the provision of a disabled ramp at the Guide Hut, and £300 was donated to Bungay Castle Trust, in thanks for its cooperation in staging the ball.

A small surplus was left to help towards any other project which may need support.

The summer ball has become one of the town’s top social attractions over the past six years, and is held during the annual Bungay Festival in a marquee at the Castle Meadow. It was attended this year by around 270 people.
