A MARKET town was the latest to usher in the festive season in style, just 10 weeks after a new committee was formed to organise its Christmas lights.

Hundreds of people flocked to Halesworth on Saturday afternoon to witness its lights being switched on, thanks to the efforts of the town's traders' association.

Dudley Clarke, spokesman for the organisers, said the town's businesses had worked hard to get the event off the ground in such a short space of time.

Mr Clarke, who took on the role of Father Christmas at the event, added: “It was a fantastic evening and there were hundreds and hundreds of people there.

“I think last year there were only about 100 people, so the event has been totally revitalised. It was a great success.”
